Amazon poised to win big as India launches annual festive shopping spree

Flipkart is planning to go app only, that’s why they are offering their Big Billion Sale only on their app. This is a bit of a shame because the online shopping experience on a desktop is better and Amazon and Snapdeal are offering their big sales on both the app and the website. About 75 per cent of the phones sold during the ten-hour period was 4G phones.

Flipkart offers over 30 million products across more than 70 categories, including books, media, consumer electronics and lifestyle.

The company’s brilliant app only strategy, to offer Big Billion Day discounts, seems to be paying off. The Flipkart app has climbed up the charts to become the No 2 app on Google’s Play Store and topped the charts on iOS as well. “The Indian mobile revolution has truly come of age and the half a million mobile handsets sale record is truly a testament to the growing demand for smartphones”.

Analysts say e-commerce companies in India might make as a lot as a quarter of their annual gross sales throughout this interval, with the worldwide expertise, logistics community and deep pockets of Amazon placing it in a good place to seize clients from native market chief Flipkart and smaller agency Snapdeal.

On the first day of sale, Flipkart had sold 10 lakh products in the first 10 hours with six million visits from across the nation and 25 items sold per second.

On Amazon.in, Grocery and Gourmet sections witnessed a three-times growth in unit terms as compared to the previous big day in categories like Chocolates, Indian candies, Beverages and Organic Staples. It has now announced a Monday Home Sale on October 19.

Rahul Taneja, Vice-President (Category Management), Snapdeal, said: “The tremendous support from our sellers enabled us to provide attractive deals and really solid discounts, which resulted in this phenomenal response we have received”. “With the huge surge in sales volumes, over 5 million orders have already been shipped out of Snapdeal until now”, it said in a statement.
